GRADE A TEAK ATTRIBUTES
Our Grade A, First European Quality (FEQ) teak is carefully harvested from the center of the log to ensure the highest quality.
All timber is plantation grown and sustainably harvested in Indonesia, ensuring that our production practices are eco-friendly and
socially responsible.
Exceptionally weather-resistant, teak is impervious to sun, rain, and snow, making it suitable for diverse climates, including salt-air
environments.
Teak's natural beauty is highlighted by its exquisite grain and knot-free appearance, which evolves from a warm golden brown to a
sophisticated silver-gray as it weathers.
Wood is kiln dried prior to manufacturing to prevent shrinkage from moisture loss, ensuring joints will remain tight after years of
use.
We do not apply any stains or oils to our Grade A teak furniture, opting instead for a smooth, sanded finish that allows the natural
beauty of the wood to shine through.
Natural variation in color and grain is inherent to teak and adds to its unique character and charm.
CHECKLIST FOR NEW TEAK FURNITURE
Before using your new teak furniture, wipe all wood surfaces with a soft damp cloth to remove any teak dust leftover from the
manufacturing process. Teak dust can discolor upholstery (cushions, umbrella canopies, etc.). Do not place anything on the
furniture, including cushions that are still in their plastic bags, until the wood has been thoroughly wiped down and allowed to dry.
New teak furniture has been beautifully sanded, but is intentionally left without any sealant, oil, or wax, allowing the natural
beauty of the wood to shine through. As a result, it is important to take care to protect it from stains such as those caused by food
and drink spills, as well as water rings from drinking glasses. To provide additional protection, you may choose to treat surfaces
that are more prone to staining with Kingsley Bate Teak Shield.
When teak furniture is new and has not been exposed to sunlight, it is normal for it to exhibit a more pronounced variation in
wood and grain color. Teak wood is kiln-dried before manufacturing, and sometimes during this process, the naturally occurring
oils can rise to the surface, resulting in a deeper coloration. This is perfectly normal, and with exposure to sunlight, some of this
variation will subside after a few days, leaving the teak with a more uniform appearance.
If using teak dining chairs on a rough or uneven surface, use plastic foot glides designed specifically for wood furniture, such as
those made by Forever Glides®, to prevent chair feet from chipping or splitting. Please note that it may also be necessary to add
glides to your table feet to ensure enough clearance for armchairs to slide underneath.
To prevent damage when moving heavy pieces of teak furniture, such as a dining table or lounge chair, always lift it instead of
dragging it. Dragging can put stress on the legs and cause them to loosen or result in other damage.
Until completely weathered, teak extension tables should be kept in the fully extended position to ensure proper alignment and
even weathering of the table sections and leaves.
For teak furniture that is used indoors, we recommend that you periodically apply a thin coat of paste wax (e.g., Briwax or
Johnson’s Wax) to help protect the wood from spotting caused by natural body oils or hand lotions.

WEATHERING
Teak furniture that is exposed to the elements will undergo a natural weathering process. The exact manner and speed at which this
occurs depends on the level of exposure, local climate and weather, and natural variations in the wood.
Weathering is commonly associated with four characteristics:
1. Teak oil surfacing: Teak wood is rich in natural oil, which makes it stable in extreme climates and resistant to bugs and rotting.
When furniture is new, these oils can surface during damp or humid conditions, leading to discoloration of cushions and
upholstery. It's important to note that teak oil stains are not covered under Kingsley Bate’s warranty. To help prevent
discoloration, it's recommended that you remove cushions from frames and pull sling chairs out from beneath teak dining tables
when the furniture is not in use. Additionally, it is recommended to leave the lids on new teak cushion-boxes open to expose
their interior to the elements -- and avoid storing cushions inside until you notice the natural color change of the interior. Once
the furniture has had a chance to weather and begins to form a silver-gray patina, typically after a few rainfalls, these
precautions should no longer be necessary.
2. Grain lifting: New teak furniture is sanded to a very smooth factory finish. However, when the furniture is exposed to moisture,
the finish may feel slightly rough due to a natural lifting of the grain. This is normal and the finish will gradually return to a
smooth surface through normal use and with time. If desired, you can also help this process along by gently sanding the surfaces
you come in contact with, such as the arm of a chair, with a fine grit sandpaper (320 grit). Always remove cushions prior to
sanding, sand in the direction of the wood grain, and do not power sand. Once you are done sanding, wipe all furniture surfaces
thoroughly with a damp cloth to remove any teak dust, and allow the furniture to dry.
3. Checking: Teak wood naturally expands and contracts with changes in temperature and
humidity, which can result in small cracks or “checking” on surfaces of the furniture. Checking is
cosmetic only and typically has no impact on the structural integrity of the frame. As checking is
a natural part of the weathering process, and almost always cosmetic in nature, it is not covered
by warranty. However, in rare cases where a crack becomes exceptionally large or occurs in a
location which interferes with the stability of the furniture and renders it unsafe for usage, do
not use the furniture, and immediately contact Kingsley Bate Customer Service for guidance.
4. Color change: When used outdoors, teak wood will gradually form a handsome silver-gray patina. This process can take nine to
twelve months depending on climate, weather conditions, and level of exposure. Initially, you may notice water spots from rain.
These are normal and will even out with time and continued exposure to the elements. To allow furniture to develop the gray
patina, use only soap and water to clean your furniture. Do not use bleach, chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or Kingsley Bate Teak
Cleaner as these products will remove the gray patina and return the wood to a brown color. If you wish to maintain or restore
the brown color of new teak, use Kingsley Bate Teak Cleaner followed by periodic applications of Teak Protector.

PROTECTIVE COVERS
To ensure that your outdoor furniture is well-protected and ready for use at a moment's notice, we highly recommend
utilizing our custom-fit Protective Covers when your furniture is not in use for extended periods.
Each cover is expertly tailored to fit the specific
dimensions of your furniture, providing coverage and
protection from the elements. Made from 100%
solution-dyed polyester, they can help withstand daily
exposure to sun, rain, and mildew, ensuring your
furniture stays in top condition for longer.
Practical and user-friendly, our covers feature easy-to-
use buckles to secure covers to frames, and are designed
to allow air to circulate to prevent moisture buildup. For
some items, we include tenting devices to help prevent
water from pooling. Plus, our covers are engineered to
accommodate cushions, so you can keep them in place
for added convenience.
Please note that while our Protective Covers are highly
effective, they are not recommended for use in high
wind locations.
WINTER STORAGE
When winter arrives, it's important to take the necessary steps to protect your outdoor furniture. While teak furniture is durable enough to
withstand snow and freezing temperatures, it's recommended that cushions, sling furniture, and sling decking inserts (beneath seat
cushions) be brought indoors to prevent damage.
If you prefer to store your teak furniture during the winter, we recommend doing so in a dry and unheated location, such as a garage or
garden shed. Protective covers can also be used, provided they are made from breathable materials or have adequate ventilation to
prevent mildew.
Before storing your furniture, it's important to clean and dry it thoroughly to prevent any mildew from forming. When you're ready to take
your furniture out of storage, inspect all hardware to ensure it hasn’t loosened, and tighten any loose bolts by hand to prevent over
tightening. Before placing your furniture back outside, inspect the plastic foot glides for any signs of wear and replace as needed.

TEAK CLEANING & SEALING INSTRUCTIONS
To keep your teak outdoor furniture looking its best, we recommend cleaning it at least twice a year, or more frequently if needed or
desired. If you spill food or drinks on the furniture or notice small black dots of mildew, it's important to clean them immediately to
prevent stains from setting in. Before cleaning, remove any cushions from the furniture to prevent them from getting wet or damaged.
Always start with the gentlest cleaning method, such as using soap and water, before moving on to more intensive approaches.
Kingsley Bate also offers Teak Shield, a product that can be applied to clean wood to help prevent fresh spills from penetrating the
surface and to inhibit the growth of mildew. By following these cleaning instructions and using Teak Shield, you can keep your teak
outdoor furniture looking beautiful and well-maintained for years to come.
TEAK WOOD CLEANING:
Standard Cleaning: Begin by hosing down the furniture with clean water. Avoid using a pressure washer or high-pressure hose as this
can damage the surface of the wood. Scrub the wet furniture with a soft bristle brush and a solution of 2/3 cup of standard laundry
detergent (or 1/4 cup high efficiency laundry detergent) and 1/4 cup bleach in 1 gallon of warm water. Note that bleach will remove
the gray patina from weathered furniture, so if you want to maintain the gray patina, use soap and water only. Rinse the entire frame
with more water to remove the cleaning solution and allow the furniture to air dry before putting any cushions back on.
Intensive Cleaning: For more difficult stains that cannot be removed with the standard cleaning process, and for mold and mildew
(which can present as small black dots), use Kingsley Bate Teak Cleaner. Note that this cleaner will remove the gray patina from
weathered furniture, so use soap and water only if you want to maintain the gray patina.
Sanding: If you have small scratches, marks, or stubborn stains, gently hand sand the area with 320-grit sandpaper. Always sand in the
direction of the wood grain and wipe all wood surfaces with a soft damp cloth to remove any teak dust leftover from the sanding
process. Note that sanding will remove the gray patina from weathered furniture, but it will reform with time and exposure to the
elements.
TEAK WOOD SEALING:
If you prefer the golden-brown color of teak furniture and want to prevent a silver-gray patina from forming, you can apply a
sealant to the wood. Sealing teak wood is a purely cosmetic process that does not affect the longevity of the furniture.
For the best results, we recommend using a water-based sealant, such as Kingsley Bate Teak Protector. Avoid using oil-based
sealers, as excess oil during the application process or oiling wood that is not dry can lead to mildew growth.
If your teak has already weathered and formed a silver-gray patina, you can bring back the brown color by cleaning the
furniture with Kingsley Bate Teak Cleaner and applying Kingsley Bate Teak Protector afterward.
Before applying any sealant, ensure that the wood is completely dry. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of
the sealer for application.
HARDWARE CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
When cleaning hardware, always read and follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the cleaning agent, and avoid
getting the cleaning agent on the wood or upholstery.
We recommend the use of Brasso® Metal Polish for brass hardware and reputable stainless steel cleaner for stainless steel hardware.
Apply the cleaner as directed, following the manufacturer's instructions for application and removal. Only use applicators that are soft,
such as a soft cloth or sponge, that will not scratch the hardware.

Teak Cleaner
Cleans teak wood and removes the silver-gray patina that forms as teak weathers.
Restores the wood to a light brown color which can then be maintained using Teak Protector.
If you wish to maintain the gray patina on your teak furniture, only follow our Standard Cleaning instructions
(soap/water) and avoid using Teak Cleaner as it will remove the gray patina.
This water-based solution eliminates the need for heavy scrubbing and can be applied as necessary.
Teak Protector (Sealer)
Slows teak from weathering to gray; new teak furniture should weather for two weeks outside before treatment.
Acts as a sealer to preserve teak’s brown tone; does not provide protection from stains.
Teak protector has a color tint resembling the golden hue of new teak wood. We advise testing it on a hidden area, like
a chair’s underside, to ensure you’re satisfied with the color before applying it to the entire piece.
This water-based solution lasts approximately one season and can be reapplied as needed.
Teak Shield
Helps prevent mildew and stains from red wine, salad oil, etc. from penetrating the wood so that fresh spills can be
wiped away with a damp cloth.
May be used on any type of teak wood (new, naturally weathered, treated with Teak Protector).
Teak Shield should be applied after Teak Protector.
This water-based solution is completely transparent and can be applied two to three times annually.

UPHOLSTERY ATTRIBUTES
Our stocked upholstery fabric, made from either 100% solution-dyed acrylic or a solution-dyed acrylic-blend, provides exceptional
stain, fade, and weather resistance. Water resilience varies between standard and high-performance selections, with the latter
delivering near-waterproof capabilities. Note: Attributes of Customer's Own Material (C.O.M.) may differ.
All upholstery is constructed with a lock-stitch sewing method to maintain seam strength and resist wear and tear.
Cushions and pillows come with color-coordinated nylon zippers for efficient water drainage and easy maintenance.
Seat cushions feature either polyurethane or reticulated foam, both wrapped in polyester fiber batting; back cushions may use the
same fill or polyester blow fill. A water-resistant liner may encase the fill if this option was specified by the customer.
All upholstery complies with California Technical Bulletin 117-2013 (TB 117-2013) flame retardant standards and are free from
chemicals outlined in California's Proposition 65. Note: Attributes of Customer's Own Material (C.O.M.) may differ.
MAINTENANCE & CARE
To ensure the longevity and beauty of your upholstery, proper maintenance is essential. By following the guidelines outlined in this
section, you can protect your investment and enjoy your furniture for years to come.
PRECAUTIONARY MAINTENANCE:
Teak Oil Surfacing: Teak wood is rich in natural oils. When furniture is new, some of these oils may surface from the wood during
damp or humid conditions. To help prevent oil from discoloring upholstery, it’s recommended that you remove cushions from
frames when furniture is not in use. Once the furniture has had a chance to weather and begins to form a silver-gray patina,
typically after a few rainfalls, these precautions should no longer be necessary.
Mildew Stain Prevention: Our acrylic fabrics are naturally mildew resistant. However, mildew can develop from dirt and debris left
on the fabric for extended periods. It's important to clean mildew at first sight before stains set in, using our instructions: Intensive
Cleaning (with Bleach).
Protective Covers: When furniture is not in use for extended periods, we highly recommend using custom-fit Kingsley Bate
Protective Covers to protect cushions from sun, rain, and environmental debris.

DRYING WET CUSHIONS:
While our cushions and pillows are designed for weather performance, it's important to inspect them after rainfall for signs of water
infiltration. Allowing water to remain in the cushion fill or fabric casing can result in mildew damage or fabric stains. All cushions and
pillows should be inspected; however, cushions made with a high-performance option, such as Sunbrella Rain fabric, a water-resistant
liner encasing the fill, or a reticulated foam core, are more water-resistant and require less drying time.
To dry cushions and pillows when water has infiltrated the fill, follow the steps below:
1. Unzip the cushion and drain any loose water from the fabric casing through the zipper opening.
2. With the zipper still open, stand the cushion vertically, zipper side down, in a dry and sunny location.
3. This position will allow water to drain downwards through the zipper opening, resulting in the fastest drying time.
4. Cushions made with high-performance construction typically dry in less than 24 hours; those with standard-performance
construction typically dry in 24-48 hours. Drying times are estimates only, and results will vary greatly based on the water
repellency of the fabric, cushion thickness, saturation level, climate, and commitment to care and maintenance.
OCCASIONAL MAINTENANCE:
Fabric Pilling: Pilling may sometimes occur due to normal wear and tear on the surface of acrylic fabrics. Although purely aesthetic,
pills can be removed easily with a pill-removing tool. Always follow the tool manufacturer's instructions.
WINTER STORAGE:
When winter arrives, it's important to take the necessary steps to protect your outdoor upholstery. We recommend storing cushions in
a dry basement, garage, or shed. Alternatively, cushions may be stored inside a cushion box or beneath a ventilated/breathable
protective cover.
Before storing your upholstery, it's crucial to clean and dry it thoroughly to prevent any mildew from forming.
UPHOLSTERY CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Regular maintenance and cleaning can help extend the lifespan of your outdoor upholstery and keep it looking great. By addressing
spills and messes promptly and performing routine cleaning, you can keep your cushions and pillows in top condition.
Note: The following instructions apply to cushions made with Kingsley Bate’s line of fabrics. For cushions made with Customer's Own
Material (C.O.M.), always follow the cleaning instructions from the fabric manufacturer.
Important Points Before Cleaning:
1. Keep cushion fill in place and never use a washing machine.
2. Use water not exceeding 100°F (37°C) for cleaning, as acrylic fabric is heat-sensitive and may shrink at high temperatures.
3. Do not use bristle brushes, as they can damage the fabric or puncture the waterproof backing on some fabrics.
4. Remember to always start with the least-intensive cleaning method before trying more intensive methods.
v-041423 Kingsleybate.com page 9
(703)361-7000 I teak@kingsleybate.com
Quick Action for New Spills:
1. Blot (don't rub) liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth.
2. For oil-based spills, apply an absorbent such as cornstarch, then remove with a straight edge (e.g., a clean plastic scraper).
3. Spray on a mild cleaning solution of mild soap (e.g., Woolite®) and water.
4. Rinse the fabric thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
5. Air dry.
Preventative Maintenance:
1. Brush off dirt and debris before it becomes embedded in the fabrics. Acrylic fabrics are naturally mildew and mold resistant.
However, mildew can develop from dirt and debris left on the fabric for extended periods.
2. Address messes and clean spills as soon as they occur. The quicker you clean spills, the easier they can be to remove.
Least-Intensive Cleaning:
1. Prepare a solution of 1/4 cup mild soap (e.g. Woolite®) per gallon of lukewarm water.
2. Use a sponge or clean cloth to gently wipe the fabric and lightly agitate any stained areas.
3. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
Intensive Cleaning (with Bleach):
1. Prepare a solution of 1 cup of bleach and 1/4 cup mild soap (e.g., Woolite®) per gallon of water.
2. Spray the entire area and allow the solution to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.
3. Clean the entire surface area with a clean white towel.
4. Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
5. For severe mold/mildew growth, bleach quantities may be increased.
Oil-Based Stains (example: Discoloration caused by teak oil surfacing):
1. Pre-treat by spraying the stained area with: Greased Lightning® Classic Cleaner & Degreaser.
2. Lightly agitate the pre-treated stain with a soft clean cloth.
3. Allow the degreaser product to sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes. For more severe stains, you can extend the dwell time.
4. Wash the stain using a soft clean white towel and a solution of: ¼ cup mild soap (e.g., Woolite®), 1 cup bleach, and 1 gallon
cold water.
5. After washing, rinse the area thoroughly with cold water.
6. If the stain persists, repeat the cleaning process as necessary. Usually, two cycles are sufficient to remove most discoloration
caused by teak oil surfacing.
Stain Treatment:
Since different stains require different cleaning methods, it is essential to follow the appropriate instructions for the specific stain
you are treating. Consult the Sunbrella Stain Chart below for specific stain removal instructions.
v-041423 Kingsleybate.com page 10
(703)361-7000 I teak@kingsleybate.com
Drying After Cleaning:
1. Never use a gas or electric dryer, an iron, or steam, as the fabric is heat-sensitive and these can damage the fabric.
2. For the fastest drying time, unzip the cushion and drain any loose water from the fabric casing through the zipper opening.
3. With the zipper still open, stand the cushion vertically, zipper side down, in a dry and sunny location. This will allow water to
drain downwards through the zipper opening, resulting in the fastest drying time.
Reapplying Fabric Protectant:
After cleaning, reapply fabric protectant, such as 303 Hi-Tech Fabric Guard, to maintain the fabric's water repellency and durability.

SLING ATTRIBUTES
s
Our slings are crafted from 100% PVC-coated polyester yarn, a durable and weather-resistant textile that resists fading, mildew,
and stains.
Sling seating surfaces are constructed with heat-sealed or sewn seams to maintain seam strength and resist wear and tear.
Sling decking beneath seat cushions is either wrapped around a secondary frame placed within the seat frame or directly affixed to
the seat frame itself.
All slings are free from PFAS chemicals and chemicals listed on California's Proposition 65.
MAINTENANCE
To ensure the longevity and beauty of your sling furniture, proper maintenance is essential.
Dining chairs should be pulled out from underneath teak wood dining tables when not in use specifically
when the teak table has not yet weathered. If oil secretions drip from the table onto the fabric, they can permanently stain it. Once the
table has had a chance to weather and begins to form a silver-gray patina, typically after a few rainfalls, these precautions should no
longer be necessary.
Mildew Stain Prevention: PVC slings are naturally mildew resistant. However, mildew can develop from dirt and debris left on the
slings for extended periods. If mildew forms on sling surfaces, it should be promptly cleaned using the standard cleaning instructions
to prevent permanent staining. Mildew must not be allowed to remain on the sling/fabric for too long; otherwise, it may not come
fully clean (i.e., can leave a permanent mark or stain).
Oil Based Stains: Avoid contact between oil-based products, such as suntan oils and lotions, and your slings, as they may damage the
PVC coating and cause premature aging or staining. In case of contact, promptly follow the standard cleaning instructions to remove
the oil-based substance from the sling.
Salt Air/Poolside Environment: If used by the ocean or poolside, more frequent cleaning of slings is required to remove any buildup
of salt residue or chlorine from the sling surface. Allowing it to remain on the sling for too long without cleaning can discolor or
weaken the textile.
Protective Covers: When furniture is not in use for extended periods, we highly recommend using custom-fit Kingsley Bate
Protective Covers to protect your furniture from sun, rain, and environmental debris.

removable sling decking be stored in a dry basement, garage, or shed.
Before storing, it's important to clean and dry furniture and decking thoroughly to prevent any mildew from forming.
SLING CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Slings should be cleaned regularly (about once per month) to avoid a buildup of residue from environmental factors. Always start
with the gentlest cleaning method, such as soap and water, before moving on to more intensive approaches.
Standard Cleaning:
1. Prepare a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid dish detergent (e.g., Dawn®), 2 tablespoons bleach, and 1 gallon of warm water.
2. Moisten the sling with a low-pressure garden hose to rinse off any loose dirt. Start at the top and rinse downward.
3. Using the cleaning solution and either a soft bristle brush (non-metallic) or clean sponge, clean the sling in a circular motion,
working from the top downward.
4. Rinse the sling thoroughly to rinse away the cleaning solution.
5. Allow furniture to air dry.
Intensive Cleaning:
1. Moisten the sling with a low-pressure garden hose to rinse off any loose dirt. Start at the top and rinse downward.
2. Fill a hand-held spray bottle with a mixture of 50% water and 50% APCO FabClean Green Concentrate. The APCO product
can be purchased directly from APCO at www.cleancanvas.com (Note: use a hand-held spray bottle, not a pressurized
sprayer).
3. While the sling is still wet and working your way up from the bottom to the top, spray a light coat of the solution onto the
sling surface. Be careful to avoid spraying the solution on teak wood or steel accents.
4. Gently clean the sling in a circular motion using a soft bristle brush (non-metallic). Work your way from the top to the bottom
of the sling.
5. Rinse the sling thoroughly with the hose to remove the cleaning solution.
6. Allow furniture to air dry.
