POSITIONSUMMARY:
TheHeritageEarlyLearningCenterEducationLeadTeacherisresponsibleforprovidinganearlychildhoodeducationprogram
foragroupof1‐5yearoldchildrenthatmeettheearlychildhoodeducationstandardsoftheHUELC.TheLeadTeacher
addressesallareasofdevelopmentandmeetstheindividualneedsofeachchild.Inpartnershipwithparents,theLead
Teacherobservesandassesseschildren’sdevelopment,planschildren’scurriculumbasedonchilddevelopmentknowledge,
designsthelearningenvironment,andimplementsandsupervisesdevelopmentallyappropriatelearningactivities.
PRINCIPALDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Developanindoorandoutdoorlearningenvironmentthatprovidesavarietyofageappropriateexperiencesto
fosterchildexplorationanddiscovery.
2. Useacurriculumframeworkandcurriculumtoolsthatprovideopportunitiesforeachchildtomeetlearning
expectationsthatpreparechildrenforsuccessinschool.
3. Establishadailyroutinethatincludestimeforsmallgroupandlargegroupactivities,encouragescreative
expression,andincorporateshealthandnutritiondevelopmentaspartofdailyactivities.
4. Modelappropriateandrespectfulbehaviortothechildrenandfellowstaff.
5. Workwithparentstoplanculturallyappropriatecurriculumthatsupportschildren’slearningstylesandinterests.
6. Assureparentinputintomenus.
7. Supportchildren’ssocialandemotionaldevelopmentthroughpositivechildguidanceapproachesandthe
developmentofpositiverelationshipsintheclassroom.
8. Assesseachchild’slearningneedsthroughscreening,observation,ongoingassessmentandthedevelopmentof
individuallearningplans.ReportonatleastonechildoutcometotheDepartmentofEarlyLearning.
9. LeadtheclassroomteamthatcanincludeanAssistantTeacher,ClassroomAideandFamilySupportSpecialistin
collaborativelyworkingwithchildrenandfamilies.Providedirectiontostaffasneeded.
10. Haveparentconferenceswitheachchild’sparent(s)foraminimumofthreehoursayeartopartnerinlearning
goals,developcoordinatedlearningsupportstrategiesandinvolvetheparent(s)inthechild’spreschoolexperience.
11. Establishandmaintainconfidential,accurateandtimelyinform
ationoneachchild’sdevelopmentandprogram
participation.Maintainconfidentiality.
12. Incorporateparentingtrainingandparentleadershipinprogramactivities.
13. Usevideocommunicationsystemsandclassroomvideorecordingsforinter‐sitecommunication,professional
developmentandpotentialparentleadershiptraining.
14. Participateincommunityassessmentactivitiesandanannualprogramself‐assessment.Useinformationinongoing
programimprovement.

Recognition,OR
3. AvalidWashingtonStateTeachingCertificatewithanendorsementinEarlyChildhoodEducation(Pre‐K‐Grade3)or
EarlyChildhoodSpecialEducation.
