On the state level
All not-for-profit applicants must now pre-qualify on the NYS Grants Reform
website at grantsreform.ny.gov/grantees in order to apply for certain
New York State grant solicitations. Potential not-for-profit applicants are
strongly encouraged to begin the process of registering and pre-qualifying
immediately as this is a lengthy process.
New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation (DEC), Municipal Waste Reduction
and Recycling Program - Recycling Coordination,
Education, Planning and Promotion Project Grants
The DEC invites applications for assistance in funding programs in recycling
education, coordination, planning and promotion and in waste reduction
education. Projects must be conducted during January to December 2020.
Eligibility: Applicants must be a municipality, a local public authority,
a local public benefit corporation, a school district, supervisory district or
improvement district, a Native American tribe or nation residing in New
York State or any combination of these.
Funding: Grants fund a maximum of 50% of project cost. Requested
amounts should be in the range of $10,000 and $2 million in grant
funding.

New York State Office of
Parks, Recreation and Historic
Preservation, Connect Kids to
Parks Field Trip Grant Program
This funding connects New York
schoolchildren with nature, outdoor
recreation and history by refunding
transportation costs and program fees up
to $1,000 for eligible classrooms.
Eligibility: Classrooms of any grade
level in New York State public school
districts with at least one Title 1 school,
after-school clubs in eligible school
districts, Advantage After School
programs, 21st Century Community
Learning Centers, Empire After School
Program, New York City Department
of Youth and Community Development
After School Program and any municipal
recreation program in communities with
Title 1 schools are eligible to apply for
this grant. Destinations must be to NYS
parks or state lands.
Funding: Up to $1,000 in
transportation, entry, pavilion and
programming costs will be reimbursed.
Deadline: Applications are accepted
on a rolling basis.

Small Business Innovation
Research Program (SBIR)
Offering competitively awarded grants to
qualified small businesses, this program
seeks to support high-quality research
related to important scientific problems and
opportunities in agriculture that could lead
to significant public benefits. It also fosters
and encourages participation by women-
owned and socially or economically
disadvantaged small businesses. Research
topics include: forests and related
resources, plant production and protection,
animal production and protection, air, water
and soils, food science and nutrition, rural
development aquaculture, biofuels and bio-
based products, small and midsize farms
and plant production and protection.
Eligibility: Small businesses and small
proprietorships that are in business for
profit are eligible to submit applications to
this program.
Funding: $25 million is available to
fund up to $100,000 for Phase 1.

U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development
(HUD), Office of Special
Needs Assistance Programs
(SNAPS), in conjunction
with the U.S. Department of
Justice (DOJ) and Ofce for
Victims of Crime (OVC) make
funds available for grants
to implement Specialized
Housing and Services for
Victims of Human Trafcking
The purpose of this program is to enhance
the quality and quantity of safe housing
and specialized services available to assist
victims of human trafficking. Organizations
should have the ability to provide safe
housing options and client-focused
services to victims of human trafficking
that result in obtaining and remaining in
permanent housing situations with the
necessary supportive services to ensure
participant success for housing retention
that includes the necessary income to
promote self-sufficiency.
Eligibility: State, county, city township
and district governments, public and
state higher education institutions, Native
American organizations, nonprofits and
small businesses are eligible to apply.
Funding: $13.5 million is available for
awards from $500,000 to $1 million.

GKV Foundation, New Arts
Education Initiatives program
The foundation supports individual
development and related community
impact through the visual arts, music and
dance. It is interested in initiatives on the
wish lists of not-for-profits, such as big
ideas that haven’t been funded and are
unproven but have exciting possibilities.
Eligibility: Applicants must be a not-
for-profit organization that has been in
operation for five or more years and is
within a five-hour drive of the New York
City metro area.
Funding: $15,000 to $50,000

Humanities New York:
Vision Grants, Action
Grants and Quick Grants
Humanities New York works with
community groups throughout the
state using the content and tools of the
humanities to address issues of civic
engagement and trust. It strives to ensure
that all New Yorkers may access the
tools and experiences of the humanities.
It is the sole state affiliate of the National
Endowment for the Humanities. Vision
Grants are planning grants offering up
to $1,500 in support of new ideas and
strategies for humanities projects. Action
Grants offer $1,500 to $5,000 in matching
funds for public-facing humanities projects
that encourage audience reflection and
engagement with others in the state.
Quick Grants are a $500 match to support
smaller organizations in offering public
programming and to promote equity in
access to the humanities. Through 2020,
requests related to the U.S. Womens
Suffrage Centennial are welcome.
Eligibility: Any tax-exempt
organization based in and serving New
York State is eligible.
Funding: $500 to $5,000

Scholars awards
Fulbright U.S. Student Program
This program provides grants for
individually designed study/research
projects or for English Teaching Assistant
Programs around the world. Candidates
submit a statement of grant purpose
defining activities to take place during one
academic year in a participating country
outside the U.S. Fulbrighters will meet,
work, live with and learn from host country
colleagues and neighbors. There are
several awards from which to apply: the
Open Study/Research Award, the English
Teaching Assistant Award, Fulbright-
Fogarty Awards in Public Health and the
Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling
Fellowship.
Eligibility: Recent graduates, masters
and doctoral candidates and young
professionals with up to five years of
professional study and/or experience in
the field for which they apply are eligible
to compete. They must have a minimum
of a bachelor’s degree, be citizens or
nationals of the U.S., be in good health
and have sufficient proficiency in the
written and spoken language of the host
country in order to communicate with the
people and to carry out the proposed
study or research.
Funding: This varies according to the
student, the area of study, the country
and federally appropriated funds. It will
include round-trip transportation to the
host country, funding for room, board and
incidental costs, accident and sickness
health benefits and a 24/7 support line
for urgent and non-urgent situations.
