Saturday night, July 29 TA-TA! CHEERIO!
We depart Toronto after Shabbat on our Air Canada overnight flight “Across the Pond” to London, England.
DAY 1, Sunday, July 30 WELCOME TO ENGLAND!
Arrive in London, one of the most exciting cities in the world. Our adventure begins right away with a visit to Hampton Court
Palace, one of King Henry VIII’s most favoured residences. Breathe the fresh English air in
the Royal Gardens, step back in time in the Tudor Kitchens and Cellars, meander through
the Baroque and Tudor State Apartments and Great Hall, admire the Royal Art Collection,
and get lost in the famous Maze (the one time you won’t mind getting lost in England). Then,
as we enter London on the way to our hotel, we enjoy a short, guided panoramic city tour
by luxury motor coach, seeing highlights such as the majestic Houses of Parliament, the
thrilling buzz of Piccadilly Circus, the eternal River Thames, and the grandeur of 1,000 years
of architecture. In the evening at our hotel, you’re invited to Simon and Aliza’s Welcome
Dinner, with greetings and the first of our musical presentations, Songs About London. Astronomical Clock
at Hampton Court
DAY 2, Monday, July 31 TOWER, TORTURE, THAMES & TIME
Full English Breakfast. Our day begins with Mark’s exciting introduction, with some of his secrets about, and Jewish links to,
the historic Tower of London, built as royal residence for William the Conqueror, used for many centuries as a prison, for
torture and beheadings, and which today houses the magnificent Crown Jewels, colourful “Beefeaters”, and ubiquitous
ravens. From there, we enjoy a panoramic cruise along the Thames River to Greenwich,
where Mark shares with us highlights of historic Greenwich, including the breathtaking
Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College, the statue of famous Canadian General Wolfe,
and time-keeping at the Prime Meridian. We finish our afternoon with a visit to Canary
Wharf, where we see how the West India Docks were transformed (by Toronto’s
Reichmann brothers) to become today’s upscale residential district. Evening at leisure to
take in a show, enjoy a concert of the BBC Proms, or experience any of the many fabulous
offerings of London’s nightlife.

wander the perfectly manicured gardens. Finally, we will be treated to an exclusive

DAY 4, Wednesday, August 2 WAR, THE WEST END & PROPER ENGLISH TEA
Full English Breakfast. We spend the morning at the fantastic Imperial War Museum, one of the world’s greatest, where we
view their new Holocaust Galleries, see Spitfire that won the Battle of Britain, and observe the whole
of World War II unfolded in front of us. We’ll have free time to explore and lunch in Trafalgar Square,
after which we tour a magnificent Georgian mansion housing the Institute of Directors in the heart
of London’s Pall Mall. There, we then sit back and enjoy a full traditional afternoon tea with the lady
who literally “wrote the book” on tea: Gillian Walnes Perry, author of Please Pass the Scones: A
Social History of English Afternoon Tea. A musical presentation about tea completes the afternoon.
(After the dark times of the wars, we now remember the words of the great English dramatist, Sir
Arthur Wing Pinero: “While there is tea, there is hope.”) In the evening, together we enjoy a
performance of one of the most popular musicals on London’s West End.
