Do you have a warrant?
What to do if you have missed a court date or have reason to be
concerned that there may be a warrant for your arrest:
A warrant is an order that allows a law enforcement officer to place a person under arrest.
There are many types of warrants and they sometimes have different names like a capias
or apprehension request.
It is important to take steps to clear any warrant that may be outstanding.
If you are unsure if you have a warrant you can check CCAP at
https://wcca.wicourts.gov/. By clicking on a criminal case that is listed as open, it is
possible to see if a warrant has been ordered. Some warrants cannot be found in CCAP.
To clear a warrant, call the Public Defender’s Office at (414) 227-4130 and ask for
assistance. There can be delays because of a large call volume but please be persistent.
If you know that warrant is related to a misdemeanor charge:
You can walk into Out of Custody Court weekdays between 1:00pm and 4:00pm
Out of Custody Court is located in Room 221 of the Safety Building, 821 West
State Street, in Milwaukee
Approach the bailiff in court with your information. They will arrange for the case
to be heard and the warrant withdrawn.
If you know that the warrant is related to a felony case, probation or extended
supervision violation, or pending police investigation or a matter in federal court,
please contact the Public Defender’s Office at (414) 227-4130. They will have an
attorney to help you with this problem.
